Founder, Lead Fishing Guide
I was just like you when I started—did it for love of the sport. I've fished bodies of water from 50 miles in the Gulf stream, the Kanektok River in Alaskan, to 10' wide Brook Trout Steams in Western NC and Eastern Tennessee. My professional career began as a fishing guide for Elk Creek Outfitters, owned by Judson Conway, while attending Appalachian State from 2010-2014 in Boone, NC. While with Elk Creek I guided small creek wade fishing trips to full day float trips on the Watauga and South Holston Rivers. Around 70 years ago my dad’s father bought 60 or so acres of ridge overlooking the gorgeous Smith River valley about a mile below the dam. The cabin built there still stands and is still owned by the family.I grew up on that river and have been fishing it with my father, brother, uncles and cousins since I was 6 years old. It has always held a special place in my heart and I pride myself in knowing it’s many prime fishing spots and nuances.Being a fly fishing guide gives me the privilege to make it possible for others to enjoy the beauty and fun offered by the wonderfully special and unique Smith. My Approach
Every trip is built around the person in front of me. Whether you are picking up a fly rod for the first time or have been fishing for years, I tailor the day to your experience level, goals, and comfort on the water. My approach is relaxed, patient, and focused on helping you enjoy the entire experience. I will take the time to explain techniques, help you understand the water, and put you in the best position to catch fish without making the day feel rushed or overly complicated.More than anything, I want each trip to feel personal. That means paying attention to the conditions, choosing the right water for the day, and making sure you leave with better skills, great memories, and a stronger appreciation for the river.
